The third edition of the Junior/Premier Football League is back with an all new format with the league being organised for talented children to adapt with new teammates as well as for those students that cannot be in their school team due to various reasons.

The Sunday league is also for parents to enjoy their weekend seeing their child do what they like best. Parents are encouraged to coach a team with the organisers hoping to find India’s own Jose Mourinho.

The league’s small sided matches is designed keeping FIFA recommendation in mind. “Small-sided games are extremely beneficial for young children. Anecdotal evidence and research studies show that youngsters derive greater pleasure from playing football in smaller teams and with adapted rules. As well as getting involved in the game more often, players learn more quickly and take more decisions during the course of a match. And as the ball is never far away, greater concentration is required on their part. The small sided games will help.”

Parents can register their child as individuals or as a team. The league will be conducted on Sunday mornings at the Ascend International School, BKC complex in Mumbai on grass pitches.

The league will kick off on November 17, 2013 and will end on February 9, 2014.

The league has five age categories for boys: JFL-1 (6-8yrs), JFL-2 (9-10yrs), JFL-3 (11-12yrs), PFL-1 (13-14yrs), PFL-2 (15-17 yrs).

While the girls have two categories: PFL-Jr (8-11yrs) and PFL-Sr (12-15 yrs).

Each category will have no more than 6 teams. Places are limited.

This PFL season players will be tested by PIFA for their football skills and the top 50 will be posted on the Premier Skills List (for the first time in India) which will be updated every quarter. The skills assessment will be conducted on October 27, 2013.

In the 2012-13 Edition over 300 children participated in the league including 50 under-privileged children from the ‘PIFA Foundation for the benefit of sports’. The NGO develops and nurtures talent in the Colaba area in South Mumbai and help them to make a living from this beautiful game of football and keep them off bad habits such as drugs, alcohol and crime.
